There’s something really special about weddings at home. No rigid timelines, no pressure to perform, just people relaxing into the day naturally. This North Norfolk marquee wedding in Sedgeford had exactly that feeling from start to finish.
These two have been together for 11 years, proper childhood sweethearts. They first crossed paths at school when they were seven, before eventually ending up at the same secondary school and getting together at 17. Since then, life has pretty much grown around their relationship, which made the whole wedding feel incredibly grounded and genuine.
The ceremony took place at St Mary the Virgin Church in Sedgeford before everyone made their way back to the bride’s parents’ house where a huge marquee had been set up in the garden. It felt less like a formal wedding venue and more like the best house party imaginable, just with speeches, flowers and a lot more energy.
The whole day had such a relaxed energy to it. The couple weren’t interested in turning the wedding into a production or making the videography a big part of the day. In fact, the bride was naturally quite shy and very happy to just enjoy everything without cameras constantly in her face. Honestly, I love weddings like this.
Rather than forcing moments or trying to direct things too heavily, I just slipped fully into documentary mode. Floating around naturally, capturing everything exactly as it happened. The laughs between friends, the chaos around the marquee, people jumping in and out of the pool, drinks flowing in the garden and the random little interactions that often become the most meaningful memories later on.
The atmosphere really built as the evening went on too. Singing bridesmaids and groomsmen, loads of energy on the dance floor and that perfect balance of stylish but completely unpretentious. It felt cool without trying too hard.
One of the things the couple mentioned before the wedding was how much they loved films where you can actually feelthe day, especially when real audio and voiceovers are woven naturally into the story instead of everything being covered by music. That emotional honesty is always something I try to hold onto when filming weddings like this.
Massive thanks to Lottie at Florentina for recommending me, and to photographer Lorraine Fitch for being great to work alongside throughout the day.
