Holkham Hall Wedding Videographer

Poppy & Max | A Summer Wedding at Holkham Hall

Poppy and Max’s wedding at Holkham Hall was one of those weddings that perfectly balanced elegance, atmosphere, and genuine emotion. A classic late summer wedding in North Norfolk, filled with incredible music, emotional moments, and one of the best golden hours I’ve seen at Holkham in a long time.

Despite the day beginning under soft cloud cover and overcast skies, the weather actually created a beautifully calm atmosphere throughout the afternoon. Then, just as the evening celebrations began, rays of sunlight broke through across the estate, giving us an incredible golden hour around the grounds of Holkham Hall.

As a Norfolk wedding videographer and recommended supplier at Holkham Hall, I’ve filmed many weddings across the estate, but every wedding here feels completely different depending on the couple and the atmosphere they create. Poppy and Max’s wedding felt relaxed, stylish, and full of personality from start to finish.

One of the things I loved most about this wedding was the story behind it.

Poppy and Max have known each other since they were 10 years old. Although they went to different schools, they stayed close friends before reconnecting properly during sixth form. Nearly a decade later, after years of travelling and building a life together, Max proposed in the Maldives just before their ninth anniversary.

That long history together naturally changes the atmosphere of a wedding day. There is a comfort and familiarity between people that cannot be staged, and it translates beautifully on film. Every interaction throughout the day felt relaxed and genuine, exactly the kind of moments I love capturing with a documentary approach.

A Marble Hall Ceremony at Holkham

The ceremony took place inside the iconic Holkham Hall Marble Hall, one of the most visually impressive ceremony spaces in the UK.

The combination of towering architecture, soft natural light, and live music created an incredible atmosphere as guests filled the hall. Poppy looked stunning in her Justin Alexander gown paired with a veil from Randy Fenoli, while the floral styling by Hannah Hunnam Flowers perfectly complemented the timeless feel of the venue.

As always when filming at Holkham, my approach inside the Marble Hall is to remain as unobtrusive as possible. The space already carries so much atmosphere naturally that the focus simply becomes documenting reactions, emotion, and movement without interrupting the experience for the couple or guests.

Reception in the Lady Elizabeth Wing

Following the ceremony, guests moved into the Lady Elizabeth Wing for the wedding breakfast and evening celebrations.

The styling throughout the reception felt elegant without being overdone. Draping by Boom Ting Bunting softened the space beautifully, while the overall design by One Curious Dream kept everything refined, relaxed, and personal to Poppy and Max.

The atmosphere throughout the day built naturally thanks to an incredible lineup of live entertainment. Guests were welcomed into the drinks reception by live singer Leah Sanderson Music before the evening escalated into a packed dance floor led by The Ways, followed later by DJ Brad James and live saxophone from CJ Sax.

One of the things I always notice with weddings at Holkham Hall is how well the estate handles transitions throughout the day. The grandeur of the ceremony, the elegance of dinner, and the energy of the evening party all flow naturally together without ever feeling disconnected.

A Golden Hour to Finish the Day

After an overcast afternoon, the Norfolk sky finally opened just before sunset, sending rays of golden light across the estate grounds.

These moments are always worth waiting for. Holkham’s scale and open landscape make golden hour here feel cinematic in a very natural way, especially after softer weather conditions throughout the day. The evening light gave us an incredible opportunity to create relaxed portraits around the estate while still keeping the documentary feel of the wedding intact.

For me, weddings like this perfectly represent what I love about filming at Holkham Hall. Real people, genuine emotion, huge celebrations, and enough space within the day for moments to happen naturally rather than constantly forcing content.
