Sophie & Tom’s Christmas wedding at Holkham Hall was one of those days that just feels right from the start.
A stunning sunny winters day, cold outside, warm inside, and everything unfolding at a steady pace that suits the venue perfectly.
Holkham in winter has a very particular feel and I love it. The parkland is quiet, the house feels even more grand, and once you’re inside it becomes all about atmosphere, especially when it’s around Christmas.
The morning was good fun and easy going. Working alongside Dan from D&A photo, we took our time to film and phot between Sophie & Tom. No rush, no chaos. Just everyone getting ready across the estate while the day built in the background.
The ceremony itself felt simple and honest. Nothing overproduced, just a Christmas wedding in one of the most iconic rooms in Norfolk, The Marble Hall. I know so many people who have visited Holkham and never had the opportunity to go inside, it’s a must!
Afterward the wedding ceremony, guests moved through the Hall for drinks and canapés. Working with Dan was so good, we got along great and shot all of the group photos in the Marble Hall before heading up to the top of the estate with Sophie & Tom for their couple shoot.
Now I can’t stress this enough, a couple shoot isn’t essential. I you don’t like the sound of being centre of attention for a few minutes – that’s absolutely fine with me. But in all honest, it’s nice to have a little break away from the crowds and to stand back and take and minute to realise what you have just done. It’s also kinda fun – I promise!
As the evening progressed, the crowds moved to the Lady Elizabeth wing, the drinks started flowing and this is always the point at Holkham where things start to feel different on film. The light drops, the building glows, and everything becomes more atmospheric without needing to force anything.
Later in the evening, the house outside looked incredible so I took a little walk around to het some B roll shots. Lit up against the dark night sky, the house looked amazing!
The rest of the night had that natural Holkham energy of full rooms, good atmosphere, and a dance floor that never really emptied once it got going.
